Song description

ChamberBridge is the San Francisco-based musical partnership of American soprano Lara Bruckmann and Swiss pianist Eva-Maria Zimmermann.

Soprano Lara Bruckmann is a versatile performer whose career has spanned the operatic, concert, and theatrical stages. She has been praised for “her fine, strong voice and cabaret-honed acting abilities” (Opera News) and "vibrant, on the money performance" (SF Weekly). Her roles include Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte), Miss Jessel (Turn of the Screw), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Erste Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Masha (Pikovaya Dama), Arsena (The Gypsy Baron), Aldonza (Man of La Mancha), Minnie Belle (Weill’s Johnny Johnson), and many others. On the concert stage, she has served as soprano soloist for works including Bach’s Mass in B minor and St. John Passion, Rossini’s Messa di Gloria, Bruckner’s Requiem, Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, and Orff’s Carmina Burana. Lara is a founding member of the cabaret trio Girlkulture and co-founder and Board President emeritus of Arts First Oakland. She holds degrees from Rice University (BM) and The New England Conservatory (MM), where she graduated with academic honors. Lara is Development Director for ChamberBridge.

Swiss pianist Eva-Maria Zimmermann maintains a career on two continents through performances that are “breathtakingly intense” (Der Bund, Switzerland) and “brilliant and sensitive” (Berner Oberländer). Her solo appearances include recitals as well as concerto performances with major symphony orchestras such as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. Winner of the prestigious Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship, Eva-Maria has appeared at international festivals in Israel, the US and Europe including the “Festival Piano en Saintonge” in France, the “Sommerfestspiele Murten” in Switzerland, the “Yerba Buena International Music Festival” and the “Other Minds Festival for New Music” in San Francisco. Eva-Maria has studied with many distinguished musicians such as Leon Fleisher, György Sebök, Leonard Hokanson and Dominique Merlet. Collaborations include projects with the Del Sol String Quartet (Del Sol – Del Seoul: premiers of Korean women composers in Seoul, 2005) and bass-baritone René Perler (Festival du Lied, Fribourg, Switzerland). Eva-Maria graduated with highest honors from the Conservatory of Geneva, and she currently lives in San Francisco. She is Program Director for ChamberBridge.

ChamberBridge first came together musically in the Spring of 2007 to explore art song of the 20th and 21st Centuries. In their first season, they performed in recital at Old First Concerts and the Berkeley Piano Club (among others), and booked future performances at Noe Valley Music Series and Berkeley Chamber Performances as well as their European debut in Bern, Switzerland in Summer 2009. The duo is applying their shared passion for 20th Century and newly composed music and their unusually easy musical connection to a series of annual festivals, each exploring the impact and influence of a single composer. Their first such event, ChamberBridge: Messiaen Illuminated, will take place on November 15th at Old First Concerts in San Francisco.

This project is deeply rooted in ChamberBridge’s stated mission:

Piano and voice duo ChamberBridge promotes and fosters the performance, enjoyment, and advancement of 20th and 21st century chamber music through adventurous programming, musically and theatrically gripping performances, and the commissioning of new works.

The festival and its associated commissions are intended to forward ChamberBridge’s vision:

ChamberBridge curates, presents and performs 20th and 21st Century chamber music in formats that bring audiences to deeper understanding and appreciation of the material explored while maintaining the highest musical standards. ChamberBridge’s unique approach reaches beyond the traditional audience for both chamber music and new music and is highly respected in and beyond the musical community.

ChamberBridge is a fiscally-sponsored Affiliate of the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music.
